Mohegan Memories

I arrived at the Wolf Den early enough for sound check, which I hadn't ever seen before. The entrance to the Wolf Den is a slightly inclined opening, divided down the middle by a railing. so there are 2 sides of it. People were lined up on the right side, so we joined them. A short time later sound check started and other fans encouraged me to go over to the left side so I could see it better from my wheelchair--which of course I did. I sat there for a few minutes watching the band warm up, but no Bo yet. Suddenly Patrick walked right by me and I was distracted for a few seconds, and when I looked at the stage again there was Bo!

I'm not quite sure what he was doing at first, maybe checking that everybody could be heard from everywhere in that place (well worth the time doing that, the acoustics were great during the concert), and then he launched into Witness.

After Witness was over, I was made to move back to the right side. So then I was only able to hear I'm Gone, saw PART of Sinner In A Sin, and heard See The Light. But I had never been to a sound check at all before, so it’s all good.

We had to wait a few hours to get in, so everybody just talked to each other to pass the time. My aunt and I constructed this elaborate plan for me to sneak in the ramp entrance, with other fans covering me so I could just blend in, lol, which in the end we didn't need because a M.S. staff person led us right to the ramp entrance, BWAH!!!

As you've probably heard, the concert was awesome. The acoustics fabulous,

the colors on the cave wall were incredible,

the lighting fantastic,

and. Bo and the band were unbelievable. (I won’t go into the set list. I’m sure you’ve all heard it by now.)

During the concert Bo threw me a guitar pic.......and I didn't catch it! I couldn't find it either at first, but finally I did -- and then I made sure to tell Bo later, "Thank you for the pic" so he would know I found it.

Near the end of the concert, when Bo was singing SHA, several fans crowded up to the stage, hanging on, and waving cellphones in the air, pretty much obscuring my view. Perhaps it was my imagination, but it seemed to me that Bo saw this, and came over to where I was so I could see better. Unfortunately that only caused the fans to run over closer to me and wave their cellphones around again, obscuring my view even more. I felt so bad for Bo! If I saw what I think I saw, he had the best of intentions and it backfired on him. So if it was Bo’s objective for me to get to see him better, I want to thank him for his kindness. I appreciate the effort.

The M&G was held by the merchandise table as usual, only this time the table was up a few stairs. The other girl in a wheelchair, Regina, (that you see in my pictures) and I couldn’t get up there so we were told to wait in the Wolf Den and Bo would come to us. While we were waiting, Regina discovered that her camera battery had died. It was her first time seeing Bo live and she wanted a picture of her and Bo. So my aunt asked me if it was okay if she took pictures of Regina and Bo together with my camera She is thrilled with the pictures I sent her!

When Bo came out he recognized me from a few months ago at BB Kings, smiled, and came over. We chatted for a couple of minutes, he signed RFF for me (and silly me just had to tell him it was the copy of it I ordered from sugarmoney.net. Why? I have no idea--maybe by asking him to sign that particular copy it was just my way of letting him know how much that CD means to me) and took a picture with me.

My friend Debbie, the blond girl in my pictures, had wanted me to go halves with her on a T-shirt for Bo, and we brought it to the concert. She was too shy to hand it to him, so I did. At first he said he would open it on the bus--probably thinking I had made him another scrapbook/album, lol--but I wanted Debbie to see him do it so we convinced him to take a quick look. He seemed to love it and spent a couple of minutes looking at it.

He then turns to Debbie, signs her copy of RFF, and takes a picture with her.

Turns to Regina, signs something for her, and takes a picture with her.

Takes a picture with my aunt too.

Then Bo leaves to get to the very long M&G line (I can’t imagine how long he was there!), and we leave too.

The sweetest thing happened when I got home. Before she left to get back to her place, my aunt bends down to me and says, “Thank you for Bo Bice.”

I sure know THAT feeling.

PURE UNADULTERATED HEAVEN!

July 9, 2008

I had taken Wednesday off, so Rita and I picked up my friend Sandy and off we went, somewhere around 11:00 AM. Mohegan Sun is just a little over an hour ride and I’ve been there many times, although the first time I saw the Wolf Den was the week before. It’s really neat, built in the shape of a huge teepee, with a small stage, but it’s semi-circular so it has great viewing. The seating is LasVegas style with the tables coming out lengthways from the stage. There were only a few people in line when we got there and for the first ten or so people, they let you save four spots, yourself and three others. So you can take turns eating, gambling, etc. The time went by fast because of course we visit with other Peeps. Oh yeah. We bumped into some Constantine fans in line. They said the only person they would wait that long to see was him, but if memory serves me correctly, they were in line behind us for most of the time we waited.

We watched the whole process of setting up the equipment, man what a job. Then we were treated to sound check. It really is like a mini-concert, I think Bo went through five full songs. The whole process is tedious (not or us of course) and JB and Don go to every corner of the venue ensuring the sound is perfect. There were other events at Mohegan Sun that night and at first I was a bit worried about attendance. Pfft! Hours before the show the line was quite long!

They let us in around 6:30 or 7:00 and being in the front of the line, we got a great table with a perfect view. As I’ve said before, visiting with everyone is half the fun. We had a few drinks and a few laughs until it was show time. Oy, and what a show it was. Bo came out hot as hell and never let up. To make matters worse (better) his entrances and exits (guitar changes) were done through a cave. That’s right. Caveman Bo. There is a huge simulated cave with an entrance and that’s where he disappeared into and came out of every time he switched guitars. Why are you looking at me like that? Oh I know it sounds silly, and maybe you had to be there, but there is just something about Bo coming out of a cave that is a little bit thrilling. Oh, and you know what else is thrilling. Having Big Screen Bo behind him during the show … double the pleasure, double the fun. Talk-Box Bo times two? Holy Crap!

By now the place was packed and, seeing it’s in the middle of the casino, there were lots of people on the outside looking in. It’s all open. He pranced, he danced, he stood over us a lot, he growled, he screamed. “Dreams” and “Just Got Paid”? OFF.THE.HOOK. I swear, that performance of “Dreams” is seared into my brain. Everyone loved them!! Guys pumping air, girls running up to get a hand clap or picture … no kids here and it was pretty plain this was an Adults Only show. There was a young guy at the table next to me enjoying the heck out of the show. Not the type who would be reaching out his hand just to get a touch from Bo. At one point Bo bent over and reached down with his hand to this guy who reached up and put his into Bo’s for a masculine grasp. He nodded and smiled but wasn’t fooling me. He stood and danced and smiled the rest of the show.

Bo’s voice and guitar playing I can’t say enough about. Just fabulous and strong. I looked over at the Constantine fans several times and they sure seemed to be enjoying Bo. And he was making sure to charm them. Again, the band was loving it and as into it as Bo was. It’s great to see them gel.

After “Witness” when Bo left the stage and disappeared into the cave entrance, I could still see him. He was pumping his arms in the air. All by himself. He knew. He knew we loved him, that everyone in that venue had enjoyed the show and his music. I mean, my gosh, this is HIS music and people are singing along, feeling it. I can hardly contain myself when I think of it.

He came out for the encore and people were all standing singing and rocking out. People on the outside were cheering and screaming. This was another show that all I can think of to describe Bo was that he sang with abandon. He was wild and at the end he just gave a long primal scream into the mic before he disappeared into the cave for the last time. I get chills thinking about it. This was one of my favorite all time shows.

They announced he would come out to sign autographs again. You could sense everyone’s excitement at meeting him and it never ceases to amaze me how many people stay and wait. The line was huge and we were towards the end. I had decided to tell him how much I loved it. We were celebrating an anniversary, but he didn’t know it yet. He was his amusing self, saying something funny behind his hand, as I approached. I told him that out of all the shows I’ve been to this was one of my favorites. Then I told him it was my 40th show. (Yes, it is, and I’m proud of it. I know some people think I’m nuts, but I’m the one having the fun. So there.) Anyways, he stepped back and looked into my eyes. “You really don’t get sick of me? Sick of hearing the same songs, hearing me say the same stuff?” I touched his shoulder. “No Bo, I don’t. You know we hang on to your every word.” And I smiled. And he smiled back, a sweet smile. In that picture, he’s pointing at me with both hands. I adore him!

Once everyone was through the line, word had spread and people were coming over to where he was from the casino. He stood there and signed for them too. He really is something else.
